The spectacular flowers and wide range of color of the aquatic iris make this plant a must for the pond keeper. Thrives in wet soil or in the pond in up to 6" of water. They produce a thick root mass that is beneficial to the pond. After a spring blooming period the sword like foliage is attractive all through the season. Planted in bog areas at the waterıs edge they will blend the pond with the surrounding landscape. Very attractive in mass plantings around dirt bottom ponds.

Height ranges from 12"-36" or more depending on the variety. Zone 4-9 (see individual plant descriptions)

Grow in long plant baskets to allow for the lateral growth habit. When ready to divide: divide in the early fall. If divided in the spring, it will usually not bloom until the following year.

Water depth is measured from the top of the soil to the water surface.

We use and recommend open weave plant baskets. The open weave design allows the plant roots to feed from the water as well as the soil. The basket should be lined with untreated burlap to prevent the soil from leaking into the water. Smooth pebbles placed on the soil surface discourages the fish from digging in the plants.
