A wide range of foliage heights and textures. Most are grown in water depths 0"-10" depending on the variety. Add to the pond by producing lots of roots to use up nutrients from the fish waste in the water. Some plants produce flowers. Water depth is measured from the top of the soil to the water surface.

We use and recommend open weave plant baskets. The open weave design allows the plant roots to feed from the water as well as the soil. The basket should be lined with untreated burlap to prevent the soil from leaking into the water. Smooth pebbles placed on the soil surface discourages the fish from digging in the plants.
